If you are service connected for PTSD @ 100%, that is all you can get unless you get rated an additional 60% in disability that is different from PTSD. If your 100% is permanent and total and you get 60% for Hep. or your back, or whatever, then you can file for Special Monthly Compensation(SMC) @ the "S" rate. That will net you an additional $305/mo. If you get really disabled, they'll give you Aid and Attendance. More $. If you are 100 P&T via Schedular rating(Not TDIU), you become eligible for more and more $ as you get more and more debilitated. More hoops and exams. More requirements. More Begging. Diabetes can lead to amputations and that can put you into some of the higher SMC categories. Look at Militarybenefits.com @ VA comp. tables. Clic the SMC and you'll find tables M,N,O,P,Q, and S. I believe they also list the A&A amounts . If you can prove to VA by a preponderance of the evidence that it's SC, then you'll get it . It's much more difficult than the SC for PTSD. You had to prove your stresssor(s), prove the combat link via MOS or PH, CIB, CAR, etc. to get that. Here, you have to prove a risk factor-blood contamination/contact during combat, medic exposed to blood/blood products, transfusion before 1990, sex with lots of chicks unprotected, Tattoos, body piercing, hemodialysis, etc. It's a finite list. These are most of the VA- recognized ones. However, the age of your disease (measured by a liver biopsy)will determine if you get the SC. That, and a doctor's nexus letter saying so. This site is obviously tilted towards all of us who have HCV. I happen to be a V VET, too, so my advice is aimed mostly towards Vets from our war.
